To the editor:
It’s been a full month (as of Aug. 30) since the contractor stopped working on the Watson Road sidewalks. The reason given is that they’re waiting for precast concrete pieces for drains, utility access, etc.
One must wonder just where these pieces are coming from and how long it takes to pour concrete into a mold. If the contractor didn’t know six months ago when the project started what they’d need, why didn’t they? If they weren’t ordered back then, why not? If the vendor can’t fill the order, why isn’t there a backup vendor? I understand that political connections are essential to getting state contracts, but can’t we at least get competent politically connected contractors? The sidewalks right now are dangerous for anyone walking along Watson and useless for anyone who is mobility impaired.
