South County drivers should note that a section of West Watson Road between Weber Hill Road and Pagada Parkway will remain closed for approximately three months. This closure started at the end of June, and it serves as part of the West Watson Road Improvement Project by the City of Sunset Hills.
“The full closure is necessary to allow the contractor to complete the work as efficiently and safely as possible,” the City of Sunset Hills stated online. “Improvements include a new roadway, upgraded storm sewer infrastructure, and new pedestrian accommodations, all of which require significant work across the full width of the roadway.”
According to the City, residents of properties within that section of West Watson Road will still be able to access their properties, “although travel through the work zone will not be permitted.”
Now in phase three, the West Watson Road Improvement Project is funded by a transportation improvement grant awarded to Sunset Hills to enhance safety and mobility along the titular West Watson, as well as to improve the portion of roadway between Weber Hill and Rott/Robyn roads. A mill and asphalt overlay, new sidewalk installations and guardrail upgrades throughout the corridor to enhance public safety are all included in the project.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as these long-term improvements are completed,” the City stated.
