A wooden cross on the front lawn of a South County church was vandalized early Wednesday morning, and the St. Louis County Police Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

According to police, during the early morning hours of Aug. 5, an unknown individual damaged a wooden cross on the front lawn of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 700 block of Lemay Ferry Road.  The suspect first attempted to cut the cross down with a saw, but was unsuccessful, and instead pushed it down. Returning a few hours later with an axe, the suspect eventually split the cross. The axe, which had writing on it, was left at the scene along with a note handwritten in pencil. The handwritten note has not yet been made public.

The suspect, though not yet identified, was seen riding a skateboard, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and camouflage shorts. Click here to watch a video featuring footage of the suspect
