Former Lindbergh High School principal LeRoy Amen is celebrating a special milestone on Sept. 3: turning 100 years old.

Following stints as principal in the rural Missouri towns of Montgomery City, Marceline and Louisiana, Amen became principal of Lindbergh High School in 1957. He served as the Flyers’ principal for 23 years, leaving the district in 1980 to take on the role of superintendent of Northwest School District in Jefferson County.

While principal at Lindbergh, three of Amen’s five children graduated from the high school — Clifford (class of 1966), LeAnna (class of 1968) and Charlie (class of 1970). Amen also served a term as president of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) during that time.

After retiring, Amen is proud to claim that he traveled extensively and has visited all seven continents, including an African Safari, an excursion to Antarctica, a church trip to Israel and a trip to China.

Per family, Amen will celebrate his 100th birthday with a private event held at Friendship Village of Sunset Hills.
