• Beautify your community | The City of Crestwood, in partnership with Beautify Crestwood, seeks volunteers to help maintain the Government Center and Fire Department pollinator gardens from 9 – 11 a.m. No registration is required. • It’s story time | The Grant’s View Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 9700 Musick Ave., will host story time from 10 – 11 a.m. There will be stories, songs and other fun activities to help develop early literacy skills for children ages 3-5.

Explore how factors like urban growth, technology and health care have changed how death shows up in our lives in unexpected ways. Topics include locating lost cemeteries, exploring the relationship between body-snatching and medical discovery, and the politics of alternative burial methods.

Sunday, Sept. 6

• Make a difference | The River Rock Church of Lemay will host its Better Rest program for families in the Lemay community who have children in need of a bed. Volunteers are wanted. Volunteers will go to homes to meet families and measure the bedrooms to make sure the bunk beds will fit. The church also needs volunteers to go into homes, build the bunk beds and gift bedding and Bibles. Donate new twin-size bedding, pillows, sheets, comforters and blankets at River Rock Church, 1601 Telegraph Road, from 9 a.m. to noon. Call the church office at 314-968-0600 if you have questions.

• Pool open to dogs | The City of Shrewsbury is inviting four-legged friends to make a splash at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Center, 7407 Sutherland Ave., during “Drool at the Pool,” a special dog swim event from 5 – 8 p.m. The cost is $10 per dog with pre-registration or $15 per dog for day-of registration. Day-of registration will be available by cash or card, with a limited number of walk-up spots available. This event is open to all participants — pool membership or Shrewsbury residency is not required. Current vaccination records must be provided for each dog. Pre-registration closes at noon on Sept. 8. The cost of admission is $15 per dog with half of all proceeds going to Gateway Pet Guardians. Proof of Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations are required at time of registration. • Donate blood | St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 2761 Telegraph Road, is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive from 2 – 6 p.m. The event wil be held in St. Luke’s Parkhurst Building (the gym) and cookies will be available to those who donate. • Pool open to dogs | The Doggie Dive will take place from 5 – 7:15 p.m. at the Crestwood Aquatic Center, 9249 Whitecliff Park Lane. Bring your pet to a puppy pool party, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Crestwood Animal Shelter. Proof of vaccinations are required at registration. Each dog must have a handler age 14 or older. Dogs 45 pounds or under will swim from 5 – 6 p.m., and dogs 46 pounds or over will swim from 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. If you register before 3 p.m. on Sept. 10, it costs $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. If you register at the gate, it costs $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents.
• Meet with manga enthusiasts | The St. Louis Independent Comic Expo presents “Manga Show and Tell” from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Weber Road Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 4444 Weber Road. Most importantly, it is a place veterans can come to find a community of fellow veterans who support each other.
• Custard with a cop | Join the Sunset Hills Police Department, Crestwood Police Department and Crestwood Fire Department for frozen custard and conversation with local public safety teams. Come out, enjoy a sweet treat and get to know the people who serve our communities from 6 – 8 p.m. at Andy’s Frozen Custard, 9535 Watson Road.
