Beautify your community | The City of Crestwood, in partnership with Beautify Crestwood, seeks volunteers to help maintain the Government Center and Fire Department pollinator garden from 9 – 11 a.m. Workdays are held on the first and third Fridays of each month. No registration is required. Volunteers can meet near the Crestwood sign at the Crestwood Government Center, 1 Detjen Drive.

Shop ‘til you drop | The City of Sunset Hills Parks and Recreation Department is calling all thrift shoppers to experience its indoor flea market from 8 a.m. to noon at the Sunset Hills Community Center, 3915 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
Dive into history | On a hot August day in 1848, Ulysses S. Grant and Julia Dent were married at the Dent family’s home in downtown St. Louis, beginning a partnership that would withstand war, separation, financial hardship and public life. This program from 10 – 11 a.m. will explore the Grants’ courtship and wedding, examining the experiences and influences that brought them together. Through letters, photographs and historical accounts, former park Interpretive Ranger David Newmann will explore the story behind the Grants’ wedding day and the bond that endured through decades of personal and national change. Celebrate our National Parks | No matter what age you are, you are invited to explore, learn and protect on National Junior Ranger Day. Join this one-day celebration that is part of the annual National Park Week, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road. Included in the day are 19th-century farming demonstrations, a rain garden activity, outdoor games, and bird watching. Also enjoy musical performances by Wild Heart at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program is free, and no reservations are required.

Help those in need | The River Rock Church of Lemay will host its Better Rest program for families in the Lemay community who have children in need of a bed. Volunteers are wanted. Volunteers will go to homes to meet families and measure the bedrooms to make sure the bunk beds will fit. The church also needs volunteers to go into homes, build the bunk beds and gift bedding and Bibles. Donate new twin-size bedding, pillows, sheets, comforters and blankets at River Rock Church, 1601 Telegraph Road, from 9 a.m. to noon. Call the church office at 314-968-0600 if you have questions.
Dive into history | The science of archaeology relies on the discovery of artifacts to tell stories of what life was like in the past. Join Ranger Blake for a guided tour of the grounds of the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road, as he uses artifacts and the landscape to show how archaeology works and what everyday life was like at the White Haven plantation. Honor pets you’ve lost | Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day is a day dedicated to remembering beloved pets who have passed away. The day of remembrance is designed to be an outlet for grief, an opportunity to celebrate the lives of pets and a way to connect with others on a similar journey. St. Lucas United Christian Church will host a time of remembering the pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 6 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring an object of remembrance to be prayed over and blessed.
