- Beautify your community | The City of Crestwood, in partnership with Beautify Crestwood, seeks volunteers to help maintain the Crestwood Government Center and the fire department’s pollinator gardens. Workdays are held on the first and third Fridays of each month. For this workday, volunteers can meet near the Crestwood sign at the Government Center, 1 Detjen Drive, from 9 – 11 a.m. No registration is required.
- It’s story time | Story Time will take place from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Grant’s View Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 9700 Musick Ave. There will be stories, songs and other fun activities to help develop early literacy skills for children ages 3-5.

Happy Independence Day from The Call!
- Celebrate the USA | Celebrate Independence Day with music at White Haven in the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road. Join White Haven Brass — a quintet of talented staff and volunteers from Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site — for a spirited performance from 10 – 11 a.m. honoring America’s 250th birthday. Enjoy classic patriotic favorites along with marching songs once sung by Union soldiers and supporters during the Civil War. The concert is free and will take place on the front lawn of White Haven. Bring a chair or blanket. No reservations are required. In case of inclement weather, the performance will be moved indoors to the auditorium.

- Play pickleball | Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 3600 Hampton Ave., has worship recorded and streamed every Sunday from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Facebook and YouTube and in person.
- Help those in need | The River Rock Church of Lemay will host its Better Rest program for families in the Lemay community who have children in need of a bed. Volunteers are wanted. Volunteers will go to homes to meet families and measure the bedrooms to make sure the bunk beds will fit. The church also needs volunteers to go into homes, build the bunk beds and gift bedding and Bibles. Donate new twin-size bedding, pillows, sheets, comforters and blankets at River Rock Church, 1601 Telegraph Road, from 9 a.m. to noon. Call the church office at 314-968-0600 if you have questions.

Conducted by Saint Louis Vets Connect, “Veterans Coffee Talk” was created so veterans can enjoy the brotherhood shared by all branches of service, providing a non-political atmosphere where their stories and valor can be shared. Free donuts and coffee – and occasionally breakfast – will be provided.

- Watch a local musical | Step into the streets of Victorian London with Whitecliff Summer Playhouse’s production of “Oliver!” Based on the classic novel “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens, this musical brings to life the story of a young orphan’s journey through hardship, friendship and hope. Tickets go on sale at 6:30 p.m. before each performance, costing $7 for adults and $3 for youth. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the summer stock musical theater. Concessions are available, or bring your own food and drinks, but no glass containers.
