- Dive into history | The fall of 2026 marks the 170th anniversary of the Grants living at Hardscrabble. Completed in the fall of 1856, the family only lived in it about three months before Julia’s mother, Ellen Wrenshall Dent, passed away on Jan. 14, 1857. The Grants left Hardscrabble and returned to White Haven. A special exhibit on the history of Hardscrabble runs for the approximate dates that the family occupied the cabin, opening Oct. 9 and closing Jan. 19, 2027. The exhibit features a collection of images of the cabin from the 1860s through the present, postcards featuring the home and commemorative dishware sold at the 1904 World’s Fair. The exhibit is free and open during the park’s normal hours.
- Dive into history | Park Historian Nick Sacco will discuss the 170-year history of the log cabin built by the future Civil War hero and American president, Ulysses S. Grant, from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road. The new special exhibit will open following the program with curator remarks in the museum. - Plant trees | The City of Crestwood is inviting residents to participate in a family-friendly tree planting as part of the Ferndale Park Woodland Restoration Project from 9 – 11 a.m. at Ferndale Park, 974 Liggett Ave. There will be a limited number of native trees and shrubs to plant, creating an opportunity for families who live near Ferndale Park to get involved and be a part of the conservation efforts happening within the city. The city’s conservation consultant will also be available to answer questions about the restoration project and sustainability initiatives happening throughout Crestwood. The native trees and shrubs are being donated by Forest ReLeaf of Missouri through their Project CommuniTree program.
- Dive into history | The St. Louis Genealogical Society presents “The Kate Moody Collection” from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Grant’s View Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 9700 Musick Ave. Katherine “Kate” Twining Moody lived in Webster Groves and was a librarian for the St. Louis Public Library from 1895 until 1945. She amassed a large collection of photos, newspaper articles, booklets, oral histories and other documents, which has been donated to the Webster Groves Historical Society. They have teamed with the Webster Groves Public Library and Missouri Digital Heritage to make this eclectic resource fully searchable and accessible to the public.

- Blues and Brews | Enjoy live music by the Anita Rosamond Band, yard games, food trucks and beer tastings at Whitecliff Quarry, 9245 Whitecliff Park Lane, from 2 – 5 p.m. Wristbands cost $30 in advance and $35 on the day of the event. A wristband includes admission, tasting glass and unlimited tastings. Cider and seltzers will also be available for purchase. Non-alcoholic wristbands, which cost $15, include admission, tasting glass and unlimited non-alcoholic tastings.
Sunday, Oct. 11
- Attend a festival | Notre Dame High School’s 73rd annual Fall Festival will take place at 1934 Notre Dame Parkway Lane. This tradition draws hundreds of families, alumni and local supporters for a day filled with food, games, entertainment and community spirit. The Fall Festival helps raise essential funds to support student programs, classroom resources and campus improvements.
- Make a difference | The River Rock Church of Lemay will host its Better Rest program for families in the Lemay community who have children in need of a bed. Volunteers are wanted. Volunteers will go to homes to meet families and measure the bedrooms to make sure the bunk beds will fit. The church also needs volunteers to go into homes, build the bunk beds and gift bedding and Bibles. - Connect with others | St. John’s United Church of Christ Men’s Fellowship will host a sausage dinner to support the 100-year-old sanctuary.
