Beautify your community |The City of Crestwood, in partnership with Beautify Crestwood, seeks volunteers to help maintain the Government Center and Fire Department pollinator garden. Workdays are held all day on the first and third Fridays of each month. No registration is required. Volunteers can meet near the Crestwood sign at the Crestwood Government Center, 1 Detjen Drive.
It’s story time | Story Time will take place from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Grant’s View Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 9700 Musick Ave. There will be stories, songs and other fun activities to help develop early literacy skills for children ages 3-5.

Dive into history | The St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department presents “The War of 1812 in Missouri and Illinois” at 2 p.m. at the Cliff Cave Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 5430 Telegraph Road. While the major conflicts during the War of 1812 took place on the eastern half of the United States, learn how Missouri and Illinois played crucial roles in keeping the West under American possession. Model train display | Visit a Route 66 themed model train display and bring your own standard gauge and ‘O’ gauge trains to run on the tracks from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Meramec Valley Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 1501 San Simeon Way. Chat with other railfans, make crafts and play games.
Commemorate Ulysses S. Grant | The Sons of Union Veterans Ulysses S. Grant Camp #68, in partnership with Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, will be performing a death commemoration ceremony to mark 141 years since President Grant’s passing. The program includes speeches and a wreath-laying ceremony. This event will take place outdoors. The program is free and reservations are not required. It will take place from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road.
Dive into history | A lecture titled “Ulysses S. Grant on the Battlefield: A Comparative Study of Grant and Napoleon Bonaparte” will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road. Grant’s campaigns resembled Napoleon’s more than any other commander, with major annihilating victories such as Fort Donelson, Vicksburg and Appomattox recreating many of Napoleon’s famed exploits. Although Grant had to grow into his stature, an in-depth study of Grant’s Civil War career shows a firm movement from Jominian to Clausewitzian, and an arguably closer approach to Napoleonic. If those references are unfamiliar, come hear this lecture in the Visitor Center theater by noted Grant historian and former NPS Ranger Tim Smith. This program is free. Help those in need | The River Rock Church of Lemay will host its Better Rest program for families in the Lemay community who have children in need of a bed. Volunteers are wanted. Volunteers will go to homes to meet families and measure the bedrooms to make sure the bunk beds will fit. The church also needs volunteers to go into homes, build the bunk beds and gift bedding and Bibles. Open to all ages with sensory sensitivities, along with their families and caregivers, this event provides a safe, welcoming space to enjoy the water at your own pace. Advanced registration is required. Free for passholders. Cost is $5 for Crestwood residents without passes and $10 for nonresidents.
