A “Meet the Judges” forum — featuring a panel of fifteen of the 21st Judicial Circuit judges who will appear on the Nov. 3  ballot — will be held on Oct. 5 at the Grant’s View Branch of the St. Louis County Library at 7 p.m.

The event, held jointly by the St. Louis County Bar Association and the St. Louis County Circuit Court, will give the judges present a chance to answer questions submitted by St. Louis County voters. Visit tinyurl.com/4axj5r2x to submit a question.

Under the Missouri Plan, also known as the Non–Partisan Court Plan, judges in St. Louis County apply for a position on the bench and are selected on the basis of merit.

After the first 12 months on the bench, and at the end of each term, the non-partisan judges in St. Louis County must go before voters in a retention election. If a judge does not receive a majority of votes, their judicial seat will become vacant at the end of their present term, prompting the judicial commission to nominate three candidates for the position, who the governor will choose among to appoint to fill the vacancy.

Circuit judges serve six-year terms, while associate circuit judges serve four-year terms.
