The deadline for local seniors to apply for the St. Louis County senior property tax freeze — or renew their applications from last year — was extended from June 30 to July 10 by the St. Louis County Council.
Software and computer issues causing problems for those applying were cited as the reason for the extension.
To qualify for the tax freeze residents must: be 62 years of age or older; own the property or have a legal or equitable interest; and primarily reside in the propery.
Due to limited staffing, online applications through the county’s website are encouraged, though in-person application assistance will be offered from Monday to Thursday at the three remaining County government offices — the South County Government Center, 4554 Lemay Ferry Road, and at the Clayton or North County offices. In-person hours are from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a brief closure for lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Appointments and walk-ins are both accepted, though appointments are “strongly encouraged and take priority over walk-in traffic.”
