Candidate filing is open once more for the open seat on the Special School District (SSD) Board of Education in Subdistrict 2. The Subdistrict 2 seat represents the Affton, Bayless, Hancock Place and Mehlville school districts. Filing opened Aug. 3 and will close on Sept. 2.

The SSD Governing Council — made up of 22 representatives from each of St. Louis County’s public school boards — has been unable to elect a candidate for Subdistrict 2 at two separate meetings. At the March 2 meeting, this was because of a lack of a quorum: less than the majority of the Governing Council was present for a vote. At the June 1 meeting, the Governing Council voted three separate times and met an impasse each time.

Dan Cuneo, the incumbent, has run against Bob McKitrick each time. After the June 1 meeting, it was decided that Cuneo would hold the seat until the Governing Council votes again in September.

Applicants must be a citizen of the United States, have resided in Missouri for at least one year, be at least 24 years old, be a registered voter of the district and be a resident of the sub-district in which the application is filed.

For those seeking to file, applications will be distributed at the SSD Central Office — located at 12110 Clayton Road in Town and Country — between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Sept. 2. Due to regulations, information packets and applications must be picked up and returned to the SSD Central Office by the candidate; they may not be mailed. Individuals returning completed applications must show proof of identification.

Filing will not occur on days when the district’s offices are closed.
