To the editor:
This letter is in response to Dana Elsner’s May 18th letter regarding the Crestwood sidewalk project.
As a resident directly affected by the project, I attended the city meeting and expressed the same feelings as hers. The meeting was not a proposal of a project for which approval was being sought, but a mandate on the peasantry. I expressed my concerns, but the Politburo did not care.
Calling this a sidewalk project is misleading. Most of the current residential sidewalks I see in Crestwood appear to be 2.5 to 3 feet wide. The proposed sidewalk is an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk that is a whopping 5 feet wide, way out of proportion for a residential sidewalk. It is highly possible that the sidewalk will not allow residents to park in their own driveways if their car blocks the ADA sidewalk.
It appears our city officials have bellied up to mother DC’s spigot of cash and are now so inebriated on the free cash that they have bent their knee at the Federal altar instead of representing their constituents.
I propose a name for the sidewalk that reflects the essence of the project and what I feel our city government has become: the “Crestwood Ho Chi Minh Trail and Small Aircraft Landing Strip” in honor of a noted commie.
