Thieves hit South County Dodge,  7127 S. Lindbergh Blvd., just after the new year in an unusual event along the South Lindbergh car dealership corridor, but police say there have been no similar robberies in the county.
The thieves targeted 2018 Dodge Chargers and a Challenger on the dealership’s parking lot in the overnight hours of Jan. 3 to Jan. 4, police said.
Employees at the dealership, which also sells Chryslers and Jeeps, noticed as they came into work on Jan. 4 that three new Chargers were sitting on wooden blocks and wooden pallets with all four tires and wheels missing, a theft totaling more than $17,000.
County police responding from the South County Precinct found a 2018 Challenger had its driver’s window shattered and its front hood stolen. The white hood was valued at roughly $2,500, and the window at $200.
The investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department remains ongoing, a police spokesman said.
Chargers and Challengers appear to be popular cars for thieves in south county: One could have been the getaway car in a December heist at Crestwood Jewelers, just weeks after a Challenger was carjacked on the parking lot of the Sunset Hills Toys “R” Us.
