Missouri American Water is continuing its emergency repairs Friday in South County following a water main break Thursday. The repairs, which could last four to eight hours, may cause residents to experience discolored or cloudy water, low water pressure or interruptions in water service. The area also remains under a 48-hour water boil advisory through Saturday.

Residents are advised to run cold water taps at the lowest level of their homes for about three to five minutes until the water runs clear when service is restored.

Thursday’s water main break occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. leading to the precautionary boil water advisory. The water main break also forced early dismissals at Oakville High School, Oakville Middle School, and Point and Wohlwend elementaries.

The boil water advisory encompasses a large area from Baumgartner Road to Mattese Creek and along the Meramec River, extending south to where the Meramec meets the Mississippi River and eastward to the Mississippi River itself.

During the boil advisory, residents should boil any water used for drinking or cooking for at least three minutes. Water remains safe for bathing and other uses.
