The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office issued charges Saturday against two 18-year-old men in connection to Friday’s fatal accident in South County that left one construction worker dead and sent another to the hospital.

According to police, Deondre Robinson, 18, of the 2800 block of Innsbruck Drive, 63129, and Patrick Aten, 18, of the 100 block of Holden Avenue, 63125, were each charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, and second-degree assault. Robinson was also charged with operating a vehicle on the highway without a valid license.

The probable cause statement alleges that the defendants were racing each other at very high speeds down the 9900 block of South Broadway when Robinson lost control of his vehicle and spun. Robinson’s vehicle struck Christopher Johnson and Victim 2. Johnson was drug under Robinson’s vehicle, while Victim 2 suffered serious injuries including head lacerations, and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Johnson, 34, of Dittmer, was pronounced dead on the scene by officers.

Both Robinson and Aten are being held on a $150,000 cash-only, no-10% bond.
