The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges last week against an Affton man for a fatal hit-and-run accident.

Edvin Draganovic, 34, of the 8000 block of Pontiac Avenue, 63123, was charged Feb. 21 with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death and driving with a revoked/suspended license.

The accident occurred Feb. 19 near Mackenzie Road and Alpine Drive. Officers responded to a call for service at 7:16 p.m. for an adult male who had been struck by a vehicle. A preliminary investigation at that time found that a vehicle traveling southbound on Mackenzie Road struck the male in the roadway and then left. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.

A probable cause statement from police states that witnesses saw the defendant do a burnout in his truck at the intersection of Mackenzie Road and Gravois Road before continuing southbound at a high rate of speed. The defendant passed another vehicle with witnesses who saw the defendant’s truck hit the victim crossing Mackenzie Road near Alpine. The defendant did not stop or contact authorities.

The defendant’s residence was located after officers figured out the truck’s license plate based on witness testimony. At the residence, the police interviewed the defendant, who informed them that although the truck belongs to his father, he is its sole driver. Further observations by the police revealed the truck was missing a side mirror, was covered partially by a sheet and had splatter marks on its side. The defendant admitted to hitting an unknown object during the conversation with the police, leading to his arrest and transport to the county police headquarters. Upon arrival at the headquarters, the defendant requested to consult with a lawyer and “did not remember what happened,” according to the probable cause statement.

Draganovic is being held on a $75,000 cash-only, no-10% bond.
