The St. Louis County Council unanimously adopted a resolution at its June 16 meeting officially recognizing June 2026 as Men’s Health Month in the county.
The resolution was introduced by District 6 Councilman Mike Archer (R-Oakville), who shared that the topic hits particularly hard for him.
“My father died of prostate cancer, two paternal uncles died of prostate cancer and one maternal uncle died of prostate cancer and diabetes,” Archer said. “I have had friends that have been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the early stages and have survived, and their prognosis looks outstanding. I would just ask that the community understand that early detection is the key to resolving these diseases.”
In addition to stating facts — such as men continuing to live an average of five years less than women, with Native American and Black men having the lowest life expectancy, and men having higher rates of health problems — the resolution encouraged all St. Louis Countians to participate in Men’s Health Month and Week events, including Wear Blue Day on June 19, a day to show support for men’s wellbeing and health by wearing blue clothing.
Following a roll call vote, the resolution was adopted unanimously by the council.
“Thank you for bringing that to our attention,” Council Chairwoman Rita Heard Days said.
