A police search for a robbery suspect around Lemay Ferry Road spurred a lockdown at two South County schools Thursday that has been lifted.

Lockdowns were lifted at Mehlville High School and Mosaic Elementary after about an hour midday Thursday. The lockdown was activated due to the suspect search, but students were safe, a spokeswoman for the Mehlville School District said.

No one was let in or out of the building at either school during the lockdowns.

Police were searching for a suspect in the neighborhood by Mosaic, along Will Avenue, the spokeswoman said.

Officers from the St. Louis County Police Department were tracking a suspect in two attempted robberies committed along Lemay Ferry Road. Police said someone tried to rob a business in the 2500 block of Lemay Ferry Road, around the Dierbergs shopping plaza.

The same person tried to rob a business in the 900 block of Lemay Ferry, which matches the address of NZ Embroidery and is near the Family Dollar and Ace Hardware stores.

Police told the school district that the lockdowns could be lifted after the suspect was caught. There were no injuries in either of the robberies, a police spokeswoman said.

The suspect is in custody and more information will be released in the morning, the spokeswoman added.

Mehlville High School sent a note to parents about the lockdown at 12:02 p.m. An email saying the lockdown was lifted was sent at 12:41 p.m.

“However, we are taking extra precautions to keep students and staff safe for the remainder of the day. We will have increased police presence and supervision at MOSAIC and Mehlville High School,” the district said in the email.
