The final record plat for The Wayne, a new apartment complex at 8800 Watson Road, was approved by the Crestwood Board of Aldermen on June 23. This decision separates the total site, which is 11.47 acres, into three lots: one lot containing the main apartment buildings and two separate commercial outparcels.

The Wayne will be an apartment complex composed of four multifamily residential buildings, altogether containing approximately 265 apartment units. The two commercial outlots are planned to be used for future retail, restaurant or other commercial uses. According to LuxLiving, the property management company overseeing the development, The Wayne will also have a “resort-style pool” and “state-of-the-art fitness center.”

According to the City of Crestwood, the development site — which is zoned as a Planned Development- Mixed Use District (PD-MXD) — was used in 1983 as a K-Mart and Value City shopping center. After that, the site operated as a go-kart facility, offices for the Social Security Administration and a few other retail and service tenants.

In November 2025, the Crestwood Board of Aldermen and Planning Commission denied a plat application to subdivide the existing single parcel at 8800 Watson Road into six lots. City Planner Danny Jendusa recommended denial of the plan for not adhering to city code on each lot’s minimum street frontage and access.

Crestwood has issued construction permits for the first of the apartment buildings, which will be located near the northwest corner of the site — the part closest to Grant Road. Construction is expected to begin this summer, “pending the developer’s receipt of construction permits from St. Louis County,” according to McNaughton.
