Teams from both Mehlville and Oakville high schools walked away with titles for their participation in spring sports this year. Here’s The Call’s wrap-up of a few of those victories within the Mehlville School District.
The Mehlville girls soccer team won the title of district champions in May. The team had two 3-0 shutouts to start the tournament — one against Central High School – Cape Girardeau and one against Hillsboro High School — before clinching the win with a 2-1 victory against Festus High School. Mehlville proceeded to the girls soccer state championship, where they lost 0-4 to Rockwood Summit High School.
The Mehlville boys volleyball team also claimed the title of district champions. The team kicked off the Class 2 District 1 Tournament with a 3-0 win against Seckman Senior High School, followed by a 3-1 win against Nixa High School. Mehlville took the final win against the other high school in its district, Oakville, with a 3-1 score. In the state volleyball championship, the team fell 0-3 against St. Louis University High School.
On an individual level, Mehlville student Cecily Ramos won the district championship in 100-meter hurdles; she also scored third place in the 300-meter hurdles category. Ramos holds the title of conference champion in both of those events.
The boys tennis team at Mehlville was named conference champions. The team walked away from the regular season with a 6-3 record. From there, the team proceeded to the Class 2 District 2 Tournament, where they won against St. John Vianney High School but fell to Ladue Horton Watkins High School.
On the Oakville High School side of the district, both the boys and girls track and field teams walked away with conference championship titles.
