For more than a century, Dierbergs Markets and Mercy have served the people of the St. Louis area. Now, for the first time, the two companies say they are “working together to serve the region.”
Dierbergs Markets and Mercy have entered into an agreement for Mercy to acquire all 22 of Dierbergs’ traditional and specialty pharmacies and operate the pharmacies in their current locations under a long-term lease. Mercy also may develop pharmacies at future Dierbergs locations under the agreement.
“Since 1980, Dierbergs has offered high-quality pharmacy services. Customers trust their Dierbergs pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and enjoy the convenience of having this service right in our stores,” Greg Dierberg, president and CEO of Dierbergs Markets, said in a news release. “The clinical and business aspects of pharmacy are changing rapidly. Entrusting the pharmacies to Mercy ensures the continued delivery and enhancement of these services in Dierbergs Markets with the exceptional service and quality that customers throughout Missouri and Illinois count on.”

Adding 22 pharmacies to the Mercy network enhances convenience for Mercy patients and the community, including Mercy co-workers and their families, Mercy said in the release. With this expansion, the total of Mercy pharmacies increases to 34 in the St. Louis region and 48 across Mercy’s four states.
“Mercy is focused on making care accessible and close to home for patients across the Metro area and in every community we serve, and convenient pharmacy services are critical to that care,” said Stephen Mackin, executive vice president, Mercy and president, Mercy St. Louis Community. “Adding the Dierbergs pharmacy locations will further Mercy’s community health efforts in the St. Louis region, which include our focus on urgent care with our Mercy-GoHealth centers and our growing number of outpatient locations. Mercy is committed to meeting people where they live, work and shop.”
All Dierbergs pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy associates in good standing when the transition concludes will continue at their current locations and become employed by Mercy, subject to completing onboarding requirements.
“While the name will be changing, customers won’t see any change in the exceptional quality and service they have come to expect,” Mackin said. “All prescriptions and customer information will transfer to Mercy seamlessly and, in most cases, the same caring pharmacists and technicians will continue to serve customers at Mercy Pharmacy locations in Dierbergs after this transition.”
With the signing of these agreements, Dierbergs and Mercy are working toward completing the transition this spring, pending approvals.
