This year, 14 Missouri school libraries were recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) for their exemplary work. Two of those school libraries — Dressel Elementary School and Sperreng Middle School — come from Lindbergh Schools.
“The purpose of the initiative is to assist school libraries in Missouri in providing the best support possible for students, teachers and communities,” DESE Director of Literacy for Secondary Schools Lisa Scroggs said.
Scroggs appeared at the Lindbergh Schools Board of Education meeting on May 14 to present the recognition before the board. The recognition is formally named Exemplary School Library Programs (ESLP) by DESE — it is the sixth year that DESE has carried out its ESLP recognition program.
Scroggs presented librarians Kristin Hill from Dressel and Emily Hines from Sperreng with resolutions from District 92 Rep. Michael Burton and District 1 Sen. Doug Beck, thanking them for their work in the school libraries. The librarians also received a resolution from the Missouri State Board of Education.
“Both Emily and Kristin have built dynamic, student-centered programs that exemplify best practices in school librarianship,” Lindbergh Schools lead librarian and Kennerly Elementary School librarian Emily Horn stated in a news release. “Their libraries are vibrant hubs of inquiry, creativity and connection. They collaborate deeply with teachers, empower students to think critically and ensure that every learner feels seen and supported.”
