Opportunities are abundant when it comes to the Lindbergh boys swimming and diving team.
The Flyers are coming off a successful 2025 campaign, in which they placed 18th overall at the Missouri Class 2 state championships. But that success also saw several seniors graduate, which means that a new generation of Flyers will need to start a legacy of their own.
“We are calling this year the season of opportunity,” Lindbergh head coach Tim Lombardo said. “We’ve got tons of kids; in fact, it’s the biggest group we’ve ever had. But not a whole lot of experience.”
Lindbergh is led by a trio of seniors — Owen Schneider, August Hromodka and Braden Wheatley will all serve as co-captains.
Schneider is expected to swim a variety of events for the Flyers this season, while also serving as a leader on this year’s team.
“Owen is one of those guys that is very versatile for us,” Lombardo said. “He holds the team together, and his attitude and personality are just awesome.”
Hromodka is a sprint freestyle specialist who will see action in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle as well as the Flyers relays this season.
“We’re expecting him to be a big part of our relays this year,” Lombardo said. “He has experience at the state championships, and we’re really going to need him to step up and perform big for us this season.”
Wheatley is also a sprint freestyle specialist who will be an integral part of Lindbergh’s relays in 2026.
“Braden’s a great kid that’s developed into a solid sprinter for us,” Lombardo said. “He’s going to be one of the guys that will have to really embrace that leadership role for us.”
Junior Carson Mais is coming off a solid 2025 season in which he qualified for the state championships in the 500-yard freestyle and placed 27th overall.
“Carson came out of nowhere for us last year, and I think he’s going to be swimming the 200 and 500 freestyle this season,” Lombardo said. “I believe that he’s on a good path and I’m looking for him to score some points for us at state in the 500.”
The Flyers are also looking to see big things from sophomores Isaac Appelbaum and Tommy Hopper.
“Both of those guys had great freshman years,” Lombardo said. “They’re going to be in the mix for individual events at state as well as relays.”
The Flyers open their 2026 season at home on Sept. 3 against Parkway North.
