After racking up a record of 23-8 and a third-place finish in last year’s Missouri Class 5 girls softball state championships, everyone wants to know if the Lindbergh Flyers have what it takes for an encore performance.
“We have some holes to fill from last year’s lineup,” Lindbergh head coach Darin Scott said. “I believe that we’ve got some girls that can fill those spots for us this season.”
The Flyers will be led by senior Marlee Steiner, who was nothing short of outstanding in the pitcher’s circle last season. Steiner was 18-3 overall with a crushing 1.90 earned run average (ERA). She struck out 176 while also batting an impressive .394 with 16 runs batted in (RBI).
“Marlee is just a sensational athlete and is really the total package,” Scott said. “In most softball games, you live and die in the pitcher’s circle, and we’re very excited that she can play at a high level for us.”
Behind the plate for Lindbergh in 2026 is senior Rosemarie Brothers, who batted an outstanding .605 with 13 RBI before the Flyers catcher was sidelined due to injury.
“Rosemarie was as hot as any hitter in the state last season before being injured,” Scott said. “She was all-district despite playing only half of the season.”
At third base for the Flyers this season will be senior Elizabeth Johnson, who batted .297 with 10 RBI during the 2025 campaign.
“Elizabeth continues to get better year in and year out,” Scott said. “We’re going to see her at third base and the outfield, and she’s just a gamer for us and a joy to coach.”
On the opposite corner of the infield at first base will be senior Sarah Studer, who may also see time in the outfield in 2026. Last season, she batted .312 with 8 RBI.
“Sarah really locked down that first base position last season,” Scott said. “She knows how to play the position very well and also finds a way to get on base.”
Junior Charli Kupferle will see action at shortstop in 2026 after batting .364 with three home runs and 20 RBI last season.
“We’re moving her to shortstop this season, which is her natural position,” Scott said. “She makes a very difficult player look routine, and she continued to get better and better as the season went on.”
Sophomore Mya Eastwood will see time in the outfield for the Flyers, while also taking on assigned pitching duties. In 2025, she batted .308 with 3 RBI.
“Mya did a great job for us as a freshman, and she really stepped up when we needed her to,” Scott said. “I’m looking for big things to come from her as a sophomore.”
Additional sophomores to keep an eye on this season are center fielder and pitcher Kendall Martin — who batted .400 with four home runs and 28 RBI — and Camille Partee, an outfielder and pitcher.
“As a freshman, we thrusted (Camille) into the fire,” Scott said. “She stepped right up and made huge strides throughout the season.”
The Flyers start the 2026 season on Aug. 28 at the Rockwood Summit tournament.
