Attendees of the 250th anniversary celebration of the United States’ founding marched from Truman Middle School to Watson Trail Park on June 13, waving flags and blaring patriotic music.
Locals braved a drizzling rain to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding. The free day of events — put together by chairman Ron Hack in collaboration with the cities of Crestwood and Sunset Hills — kicked off with a march of flags from Truman Middle School to Watson Trail Park at 10 a.m.
After that, several people rose to make addresses, including Crestwood Mayor Scott Shipley and Sunset Hills Mayor Pat Fribis, among others.
“The American story isn’t just one that was written in our capital cities or in our courtrooms,” Shipley said. “Our history is written right here, in communities like Sunset Hills and Crestwood.”
