There are two new faces on the Green Park Board of Aldermen, as of the April 20 board meeting: Ali Thornsberry in Ward 2 and Karl Lambrechts in Ward 3.
Thornsberry was elected to the open Ward 2 aldermanic seat in the April 7 election, where she ran unopposed. She is the founder of the Green Lotus Planning Group, which provides small businesses with financial consulting, accounting, bookkeeping and tax services.
The Ward 2 seat was previously held by Ron Slattery, who was an alderman in the city of Green Park from 1996-1998; he was elected again in 2020 and has served ever since. At the April 20 Board of Aldermen meeting, he was honored with a plaque for his service to the city.
“Your commitment to our community over the last years has made a lasting impact, and we truly appreciate everything you have done for our residents and our businesses,” Mayor Joe Monteleone read.
Lambrechts was appointed to the Ward 3 aldermanic seat by the Board of Aldermen at its April meeting. He will fill the vacancy left by Monteleone, who has held the seat since 2010 and vacated the position to run for mayor. Lambrechts has served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Committee since March 2024.
In addition to the two new aldermen, Ward 1 Alderman Michael Broughton and Ward 3 Alderman Marty Finn took their oaths of office for their new terms. Both Broughton and Finn were reelected to their seats on April 7, where they ran unopposed. Monteleone was then sworn in as the mayor of Green Park.
Following the five oaths of office, the Board of Aldermen voted on which of them would step up as the new acting president of the board — a role which was previously held by Monteleone. They appointed Finn.
Finn was nominated by Ward 2 Alderman Tammy Witzig. Finn abstained from the vote at the advice of city attorney Paul Rost, who cited the $50 pay increase as a potential ethical conflict of interest. Ward 1 Alderman Carol Hamilton also abstained from the vote. The motion was approved by voice vote.
