On April 7, Joe Monteleone was elected as mayor of Green Park in an unopposed race. Monteleone has served as an alderman for Ward 3 since his appointment to the seat in 2010, and since June he has served as the acting mayor for the city.

Monteleone was named acting mayor following the departure of former mayor Tim Thuston, who resigned at a Board of Aldermen meeting on June 16. Thuston cited strife between himself, the board and city staff as the reason for his resignation.
Monteleone was appointed to the role in accordance with Green Park city code, that “the Acting President of the Board of Aldermen shall, for the time being, perform the duties of Mayor, with all the rights, privileges, powers and jurisdiction of the Mayor, until such vacancy be filled.”
This shift in the board will leave a vacant seat in Ward 3. According to city clerk Theresa Pfyl, the vacancy will be addressed at the Green Park Board of Aldermen meeting on April 20, after The Call’s press time.
Though none of the Green Park races were competitive in the April 7 election, meaning only one candidate filed for each open position, one of the board’s Ward 2 seats will now be filled by a new face: Ali Thornsberry. Ron Slattery — who has served on the board in that seat since 2020, and also from 1996-1998 — announced at the board’s November meeting that he decided not to run in this election.
Ward 1 Alderman Michael Broughton and Ward 3 Alderman Marty Finn will remain in their seats.
Each seat carries a two-year term.
