Shop ‘til you drop | There will be a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 11333 St. Johns Church Road.
Free comic books | Stop in at the Meramec Valley Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 1501 San Simeon Way, to receive a free comic book, starting at 9 a.m. and going while supplies last. All ages are welcome. There is a limit of one comic per person.
Play pickleball | The Affton Community Center, 9801 Mackenzie Road, is hosting open pickleball from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1:15 – 3:15 p.m. Admission is $3 per person or free for Renew Active and SilverSneakers members. Reservations start Monday at 8 a.m. by calling 314-615-8822.
Crestwood open house | Get a behind-the-scenes look at the city of Crestwood during the Crestwood Open House with tours, family activities and opportunities to meet city staff. There will be fire department tours at 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m., as well as police department tours at 11:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. Meet your elected officials, including Mayor Scott Shipley and the Board of Aldermen. Talk with the city’s conservationist about Crestwood’s pollinator garden and how residents can get involved. Parks and Recreation staff will be on hand to discuss programs and sell Aquatic Center memberships. The Court Administrator will share how the Municipal Court serves the community. There will be free hot dogs, popcorn and snacks throughout the event. Kids can get an up-close look at city vehicles, and a community art piece, sponsored by Lindbergh Schools, will be available for residents to help create throughout the afternoon. Student artwork from Lindbergh Schools will also be on display in the lobby.
Get your gardening on | Join gardener, author and native plant advocate Besa Schweitzer in learning about local native wildflowers and local organizations that support native plant gardening. This program is from 2 – 3 p.m. and will take place at the Meramec Valley Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 1501 San Simeon Way. It is meant for adults, and registration is required. Join in worship | Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 3600 Hampton Ave., has worship recorded and streamed every Sunday from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Facebook and YouTube and in person.
Make a difference | The River Rock Church of Lemay will host its Better Rest program for families in the Lemay community who have children in need of a bed. Volunteers are wanted. Volunteers will go to homes to meet families and measure the bedrooms to make sure the bunk beds will fit. The church also needs volunteers to go into homes, build the bunk beds and gift bedding and Bibles. Donate new twin-size bedding, pillows, sheets, comforters and blankets at River Rock Church, 1601 Telegraph Road, from 9 a.m. to noon. Call the church office at 314-968-0600 if you have questions.
Makers Market | The Sunset Hills Makers Market returns for its sixth year from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Watson Trail Park, 12450 W. Watson Road. This juried outdoor art market showcases a diverse and talented mix of artists working in mediums like clay, glass, wood, fiber, metal, paper, photography, music and more. With over 100 booths expected, the Makers Market brings together both seasoned and emerging artists from across the region. In addition to original artwork, visitors can enjoy live music, local food and drink, a homegrown goods section inspired by farmers markets, and hands-on demonstrations in the family activity area. The Makers Market continues to offer something for everyone — whether you’re shopping, browsing or just soaking up the atmosphere in one of Sunset Hills’ most scenic parks. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Dive into history | Julia Dent Grant was extremely active during the Civil War. She spent most of the war years traveling the country, including visits to her father at White Haven, to the Grants’ home in Galena, and even time at the front with Ulysses. Park Guide Jared Clark follows Julia through the war years and her efforts to keep White Haven and the Grant household intact while Grant was away on the battlefield.
