SunCrest Fest — an annual celebration put on by the City of Sunset Hills and the City of Crestwood for the local community — returns this year with a twist. As opposed to its usual September date, the festival will be held instead on Oct. 25 due to high late summer temperatures the past few years.
In addition to a new date, the event — held primarily at Kitun Park, 12343 Eddie & Park Road — will feature new activities including an ice-skating rink (with skates provided), trunk-or-treat (at the car show) and several inflatable attractions such as a corn maze, skill games, an agility course and slides. SunCrest traditions like the parade, car show, live music, a climbing wall and the boulevard of local businesses and organizations will also remain. Though festival entry is free, attraction bracelets used to access the ice rink and inflatable activities/games may be purchased the day of the festival or in advance at either city’s community center. The Sunset Hills Community Center is located at 3915 S. Lindbergh Blvd. and the Crestwood Community Center is at 9245 Whitecliff Lane.
As for timing, the parade kicks off at 10:15 a.m. The 0.9-mile route begins at Southview School, 11660 Eddie & Park Road, heads west and ends at Robyn Road. During the parade, Eddie & Park Road will be closed to traffic between Southview School at Sappington as well as at Truman Middle School at Robyn Road. During the festival, Eddie & Park Road will be closed to traffic between the Enterprise Bank parking lot and Truman Middle School at Robyn Road.
The Classic Car Show will follow the parade, running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Taking advantage of the October event date, this year’s car show will also feature a Trunk-or-Treat for some pre-Halloween fun. Costumes are encouraged.
As is typical with SunCrest Fest, this year’s event will feature live music from two local bands. Jukebox Heroes will play ’70s through today’s hits from noon to 2 p.m. and Pure Nectar — a high-energy rock-n-roll/variety dance band — will come on from 4 to 6 p.m. Additional music throughout the day will be provided by DJ Shaggy Sounds.
“October is the perfect month for outside activities, plus welcoming winter with an ice rink!” said Sunset Hills Mayor Pat Fribis. “I think this different time of year as well as the various new activities will be a huge success.
Crestwood Mayor Scott Shipley agreed, sharing, “I’m excited about the variety of new attractions… I can’t wait to lace up a pair of skates and give it a whirl!”
