Oakville High School senior Mcrae Leick has been interested in art “for (her) whole life” — from a young age, she was practicing her creativity. Now, her artwork will be hung in Missouri’s Capitol as part of the Senate Student Arts Exhibit.
Each year, senators from around Missouri select artwork from one K-12 student in their senatorial district to be displayed in the capitol building’s exhibit. The winning student artists were invited to Jefferson City on April 9 for Fine Arts Education Day.
“I feel very honored to have my artwork selected to be displayed at the state capitol,” Leick said. “It means a lot to me and gives me confidence to keep pursuing art and exploring more opportunities in the future.”
Leick’s art piece is titled “Pink Dreamers.” At first, she was unsure of what direction she wanted to take the art piece. Then, Leick’s art teacher Danielle Anderson suggested she paint a flamingo, and Leick’s creativity sprung from there.
“Pink Dreamers” was selected as the winner by District 1 Senator Doug Beck. His district makes up most of South County, stretching from Oakville to Webster Groves.
