The Mehlville School District’s Early Childhood program has been awarded first Place as the FutureBuilders Early Childhood Program of the Year by the Missouri School Boards’ Association, or MSBA.

Districts must be members of MSBA in order to be eligible, and early-childhood programs are judged for excellence in five categories: support of child development; innovation; school readiness; involvement with parents, families and the community; and commitment and leadership in the field.

The Mehlville Early Childhood program is in the Large School District category.

The district received second-place awards in 2014 and 2016.

As a reward, the John Cary Early Childhood Center, or JCECC, will receive a school visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog.

The district will also receive 1,000 books from Scholastic Publishing as part of the first-place honor.

JCECC Director Ann Westbrook said, “We are beyond thrilled to be recognized at the state level for the outstanding work our staff does for students, families and the community.”
