Dive into history | From the birthplace of George Washington to the train depot where Jimmy Carter launched his presidential campaign, Presidential Road Trips: 100 Places To Explore and Experience The History of American Presidents will help you plan an unforgettable American history lesson. Follow travel author and former St. Louis radio personality Bill Clevlen as he explores the places where future presidents spent their formative years, as well as the retreats where they relaxed, entertained and made consequential decisions. Celebrate the USA | The cities of Sunset Hills and Crestwood will host a day of activities in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The event begins with a flag march from Truman Middle School to Watson Trail Park at 10 a.m. and lasts all day. There will be a barbecue lunch at 11, free admission to the Sunset Hills Aquatic Facility from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for those dressed in red, white and blue, and a free screening of the movie “1776” under the stars at the Sunset Hills Community Center at 8:30 p.m.

Help those in need | The River Rock Church of Lemay will host its Better Rest program for families in the Lemay community who have children in need of a bed. Volunteers are wanted. Volunteers will go to homes to meet families and measure the bedrooms to make sure the bunk beds will fit. The church also needs volunteers to go into homes, build the bunk beds and gift bedding and Bibles. Donate new twin-size bedding, pillows, sheets, comforters and blankets at River Rock Church, 1601 Telegraph Road, from 9 a.m. to noon. Call the church office at 314-968-0600 if you have questions.
Pet party | St. Lucas United Church of Christ will host Paws, Purrs and Party, a pet blessing and rescue celebration, at noon at the St. Lucas UCC building, 11735 Denny Road. This free community event will include blessings for pets, a photo booth, a vet present to do microchip checks and refreshments. Pets will also have the opportunity to paint their own masterpiece. St. Lucas UCC has participated in the tradition of blessing pets for years. This centuries-old practice began with St. Francis of Assisi, who was known for his love of animals. Over time, the event has grown from a service for church members to include rescue groups who are working to make sure every animal in our area finds a loving home. This year will include Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Second Chance Ranch, Gateway 4 Paws and more.

Attend a patriotic concert | Spend Flag Day with The Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis. Conductor Ed Jacobs has planned a splendid 2026 Summer Musical Celebration, which coincides with the 250th anniversary of our nation. Uniquely American and richly diverse, the program features popular favorites and new discoveries from composers George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, Duke Ellington and more. The concert is located at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center Gym, Building 54, 1 Jefferson Barracks Drive, and it will take place at 3 p.m. This is a free concert. Attend a local musical | Set sail for an evening of music, comedy and classic Broadway charm with Whitecliff Summer Playhouse’s production of “Anything Goes.” Featuring the timeless songs of Cole Porter, this high-energy musical follows a cast of colorful characters aboard an ocean liner, where mistaken identities, unlikely romances and over-the-top antics lead to nonstop laughs and unforgettable performances.
