Oakville High School’s tennis coach Bill Ebert is looking forward to the 2019 season.

“We’ve got a lot of girls returning from our team last year,” Ebert said. Last year’s team placed three girls in the sectionals. Two of them advanced to the state finals.

“I’m looking forward to a kind of repeat this year,” Ebert said. “They’ll be very competitive. Last year we were 9-5 over-all, but we did real well in the district. The girls are working real hard.”

Ebert has senior Callie Balin back from a team that made the state championships in doubles play last year. He also has Aleksandra Blagojevic back to the No. 1 spot in singles play again, this time as a junior.

“She’s been my No. 1 the past few years, then I have girls who’ve been my (No.) 3, 4, 5 and 6 players who are going to fight for my 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 spots again this season,” he said.

“Everybody’s returning except for one player who transferred, so I’m excited about the year.”

Ebert has 23 players out for varsity and junior varsity this season for a team that placed second in the district last year.

“We’d like to top that this season,” he said. “Obviously we’d like to do better than 9-5 this year. We’d like to be in double digits or above this year. The girls have been real positive, working real hard in practice and this heat. The heat will segue into the season this year.”
