Friday, Dec. 28

  • The Red Cross urgently needs blood and platelet donations and has set up multiple donation sites across St. Louis County. ow is a good time to donate blood and platelets, since seasonal declines in blood donations often occur from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day.  In south county, stop by St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 2761 Telegraph Road, to donate blood between 2 and 6 p.m.
  • A jitterswing dance will be offered at the Concord Farmers Club, 10140 Concord School Road. Lessons start at 7 p.m. and dancing begins at 8 p.m.
  • ZumbaGold dance exercises geared to older adults will be offered by the SAJE Senior Ministry from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary, 1420 S. Sappington Road. The cost is $3 per class. For more information, call 314-822-4736.
  • Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 765 Lemay Ferry Road, will offer open prayer sessions from 11 a.m. to noon Fridays, Mondays and Wednesdays.

  • Join the Oak Bend Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 842 S. Holmes Ave., 63122, for a Noon Year’s Eve Party. Ring in the New Year early with crafts, activities and a countdown to noon balloon drop. For ages 3 to 7. Registration required at www.slcl.org/events.
  • Ring in the New Year early at the Magic House, 516 S. Kirkwood Road, with a special noontime New Year’s Eve celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids can make their own noisemakers, pose with fun props and participate in the countdown to the near year. Activities are free with museum admission ($12) and no reservations are required.
