Renters beware!
I have noticed a disturbing trend in home rental leases.
Renters need to carefully review any lease agreement for costs associated with maintenance on the rental property. These costs can be added to the rent (or deducted from the lease deposit at the end of the lease).
As an example, suppose the furnace goes out due to no fault of the renter. The owner has the furnace repaired but can charge that repair cost to the renter.
I maintain that maintenance cost to a property should be the responsibility of the owner, not the renter.
