Mismanagement by Mehlville school board demands accountability

To the Editor:

I write to express my profound disappointment and concern regarding the recent actions of the Mehlville Board of Education.

In a stunning show of disrespect to the taxpayers, Mehlville’s Board awarded massive $12,000+ raises to dozens of administrators. Several others received $15,000+ raises, and a few received $30,000 increases.

What is particularly egregious is the district’s wasteful spending, exemplified by spending over $300,000 for two superintendents at the same time. Paying for a superintendent who had already resigned, with no discernible benefit? This irresponsible use of funds demonstrates a clear lack of oversight and fiscal responsibility.

Furthermore, despite funding the district at historic levels, Mehlville has failed to show any significant improvement in reading or math proficiency. These funds could have been better allocated to hiring specialists and implementing programs aimed at enhancing student achievement.

The incumbents seeking re-election must be held answerable for their role in this misuse of public funds.

Let us send a clear message on April 2nd that excessive spending and mismanagement have no place in Mehlville’s Board of Education.

Jamey Murphy
