The Mehlville School District Board of Education voted unanimously last week to change the name of the Rogers Elementary library after a library volunteer.

The Board of Education voted unanimously to name the Rogers Elementary School library the “Bobbie Aldy Library” after Bobbie Aldy, a 21-year library volunteer as well as a 63-year district resident.

“One of my favorite places in a school is a library.  I consider it the largest classroom in our school and I also consider it the heartbeat of our campus. It’s a place for our students and for our teachers to go to read, to reflect, to think, to write, to create, to have their imagination reach its fullest potential,” Rogers Elementary Principal Patrick Keenoy said. “At Rogers, we have been very fortunate … to have a resident of our district … for the past 21 years, she has been a volunteer at Rogers Elementary School library for four or five days a week.”

Aldy’s children and grandchildren attended the Mehlville School District and by Keenoy’s estimation, he believes she’s dedicated nearly 15,000 hours volunteering for Roger’s “young little scholars.”

“She knows generations of people on our campus and I feel that it is more than fitting for our library to be named after her,” Keenoy said.

Aldy is not a stranger to receiving recognition from the district. In 2006, she was a recipient of the district’s Distinguished Service Award.
