Eighty-five Lindbergh High School seniors were awarded scholarships at the annual Lindbergh Schools Foundation Senior Scholarship Night hosted on April 2. 

This year’s event was the largest in history, with 118 scholarships – totaling $238,750 – going to Lindbergh seniors to continue their education. 

Many of the annual scholarships are given in recognition and memory of special teachers, administrators, coaches, students and alumni of the district. One of the largest of these is the Dr. Mary Zieger Scholarship, a four-year scholarship awarded to a Lindbergh High School senior – or in this year’s case, two seniors – planning to study in the field of education. Zieger was a longtime Lindbergh teacher and administrator who left the Lindbergh Schools Foundation close to $1.7 million to continue her legacy of supporting public education. 

This year, there were two recipients of the Dr. Mary Zieger Scholarship: Lucy Peterein and Katie Polovina. Each received a total of $38,000.

The very first Dr. Mary Louise Zieger Scholarship was awarded last year to Alexis Gralike who is now studying elementary education at Missouri State University.

Since its inception, the Lindbergh Schools Foundation has helped provide more than $1.25 million in scholarship funding to 986 Lindbergh students. Funds are raised annually through private donations, staff contributions and special funds. 

Scholarship criteria ranges from a multitude of factors, such as: overcoming adversity, special financial needs, having a dedicated job, plans to join the military, plans to attend college, plans to attend a vocational school, athletics, community service, participation in specific school clubs or activities and/or special interests or hobbies.
