The Hancock Place School District has hired Grace Green as the district’s new Director of Teaching and Learning. In this role, she’ll be responsible for strengthening instructional systems, working with curriculum and growing professional learning opportunities for faculty. Green’s first day at Hancock Place will be July 1, as she gears up for the 2026-2027 school year ahead.
The Director of Teaching and Learning role is a new position at Hancock Place, and it’s the start of a restructuring movement in the district’s central offices. The restructuring comes as multiple leaders in the district retire this year: Assistant Superintendent Timothy McInnis, Executive Director of Finance Paul Northington and Director of Technology Michelle Dirksen.
Roles will shift internally within the district as part of the restructuring, but Green is the only planned external hire. More information on Hancock Place’s restructuring will be disseminated as it becomes available.
“Instructional leadership requires clarity, alignment and accountability,” Superintendent Kevin Carl said. “Dr. Green has demonstrated the ability to build strong systems, support educators and keep the focus where it belongs — on student learning. We are confident in her leadership and excited for the impact she will have at Hancock Place.”
Green currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools at the Northwest R-1 School District, which operates six elementary schools in Jefferson County. She has been in that role since 2017. Previously, she served as the instructional coordinator for Northwest R-1.
Throughout her career, Green has led district-wide curriculum alignment efforts and oversaw federal Title I and Title III Programs, which deal with federal funding and disability discrimination, respectively. Green has also supervised gifted learning and English Language Learning programs and initiatives.
For the past several months, Green has reportedly been serving in an interim position to fill the shoes of Northwest R-1’s superintendent Jennifer Hecktor, who took leave for personal reasons beginning in late October and plans to resign in June. Green, along with Northwest R-1’s assistant superintendent of secondary schools Doréan Dow, has been picking up some of Hecktor’s responsibilities in the meantime.
“I look forward to partnering with educators, students and families to strengthen teaching and learning experiences that support every learner,” Green said.
