Bayless High School (BHS) and Bayless Elementary School both recently received the designation of National School of Character. This designation is given out by Character.org, which aims to provide “evidence-based approaches and best practices” for educators.
For BHS, this recognition renews their designation from 2021, when they previously received the honor.
“One of our goals is for BHS students to be ‘Smart, Good and Strong,’” stated a post from Bayless. “This reflects the work that goes on daily by both students and staff at BHS to that end. We thank our families and community for their support in making Bayless a great place to go to school.”
Over the past 25 years, Character.org has recognized over 1,300 schools as National Schools of Character. In order to receive the honor, schools must meet a rigorous standard of education that helps students grow academically and develop key character strengths.
“The schools recognized this year represent diverse communities, grade levels and educational approaches,” Executive Director of Schools of Character Nicole Diehl stated in a news release. “All are intentionally building cultures where students learn not only academic skills, but also empathy, curiosity, civic responsibility and perseverance. Recognition as a State or National School of Character reflects years of thoughtful work by educators, students and families to ensure that character is lived and practiced every day.”
