To the editor:
It isn’t often I agree with County Executive Sam Page on anything, but I do on Proposition B – it’s a misguided proposal that St. Louis County voters would be wise to reject.
Page and the County Council have been feuding for years. He will block something the council wants and then the council will block something he proposes. Each tries to antagonize the other; it has resulted in a dysfunctional government that is poorly serving county residents. The situation only gets worse.
Proposition B would allow the council to remove the county counselor or any department director if five of seven council members approve. This would be a convoluted way to do things and would likely cause county government to become even more dysfunctional. The legislative branch would assume authority that really belongs to the executive branch.
County voters who carefully consider Prop B will no doubt realize it is not very well thought out and certainly not worthy of support.
