After approximately nine months, Buckley Road reopened to traffic on July 14. The project involved the replacement of an existing bridge and pedestrian bridge about a half-mile south of Lemay Ferry Road.
The initial estimate from St. Louis County set the completion date in December 2024. Now, with the structure and roadway complete, the project is still waiting on a pedestrian fence before the sidewalk reopens. Once the sod is added, the process is officially over.
In a Lemay Facebook group, commenters piled onto a post about the reopening with elation or relief — echoing the phrases “hallelujah” and “about time.” Some commenters raised questions about the traffic closure on Bayless Avenue: a similar bridge replacement project from St. Louis County.
The bridge replacement on Bayless is complete, according to the county’s website, but the road will not reopen for traffic until early August. The team initially thought it would reopen at the end of July, but this date was pushed back in order to repour a section of the concrete pavement.
