For nearly eight months, the news team at The Call consisted of me, myself and I. Only a year and a half into my post-graduate professional journalism career, the jump from staff reporter to news editor was daunting, but I thank former editor, Erin Achenbach, our publisher, Deborah Baker and general manager, Bill Milligan, for entrusting me to fill the seat that only a few have sat in. 

While the transition from staff reporter to news editor would have been challenging on its own, it was made more difficult due to the fact that The Call was left without the former. Though with the help of our previous editor, a few freelancers and, most importantly, a patient team behind the scenes who don’t see their names in bylines each week, we persisted. 

The solo months were undoubtedly difficult, but equally eye-opening and, quite frankly, life-changing. The interesting thing about our line of work is that it’s out in the open for all to see, made available to critique or praise, and while the latter is selfishly preferred, constructive criticism is the only way to grow. I thank you, readers, for always keeping me accountable and allowing me to cover your community that has, in some ways, become mine, too. Let’s keep collaborating; you know where to find me.
