To the editor:
Just wondering if those traveling Gravois, passing Grant’s Farm early April, have taken notice of the “tree trimming” along the chain-link fence from Grants Cabin and rifle barrel fence to Eddie & Park Road.
If not, I hope you’re sitting down.
I travel this stretch almost weekly and always enjoy the collection of animals, the visitors enjoying the tram ride and especially the landscape along Gravois. Various tree species, impressive size and age and the scene it sets for the view of the animals. What a gem!
I was shocked on April 1 when I observed the trees had been butchered! Was this an April Fools’ joke gone wrong? Are my glasses dirty?
I’m guessing a utility clearing company caused this unsightly disaster to remove tree limbs from interfering utility lines. I hope it wasn’t a Grant’s Farm grounds manager or OK’d by any Grant’s Farm directing managers.
The deciduous trees, pines and broadleaf evergreens, are now left with 3-inch and 4-inch cut scars, improper pruning cuts, exposed trunk and upper canopy normally shaded from direct sunlight. “Natural shape” of the trees is non-existent. Not to mention the unsightly remains. I am hoping these “butchered” trees will recover at some point, but I have my personal concerns and doubts.
A professional and local tree service might correct the situation if contacted and given the opportunity immediately.
I’d be consulting an attorney.
