Winning Holiday Recipe Contest is a sweet surprise for neighbors

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

I wish to express my gratitude to the sponsors of the Call’s “Homes for the Holidays Holiday Recipe Contest.” This was my first time to enter, and the Nov. 15 paper brought me notification of being a winner.

My neighbor friend encouraged me to go out in the blustery weather that day and get my mail. I thought that she had placed some of her yummy sugar cookies in my box and was concerned when all I found was my mail.

I returned her call to tell her that sadly her cookies weren’t there; it was then that she informed me to look at my mail more closely.

Suddenly it dawned on me that perhaps I had won a category of the holiday recipe contest.

Even more to my happy surprise, my friend, Lisa Hehner, had won the bread category.

What a “sweet treat” for neighbor friends who share recipes and baked/cooked foods across the street with one another. We constantly brave the weather elements to pass soup/casseroles/desserts from one home to the other.

Thank you sponsors and the Call for “kneading” our friendship and allowing us to share our love of cooking and baking with your readers.
