Concord resident disappointed in proposal for Aldi in South County

To the editor:

I was disappointed to read that an Aldi is being proposed at 13047 Butler Crest Drive.

The Aldi would be similar to the Walmart Neighborhood Market that was denied in 2013. If the site is not right for a Walmart Neighborhood Market, than it is not right for an Aldi either.

The Aldi would create more traffic and noise then the Tidal Wave Car Wash that was proposed for that site in 2022 would have.

An Aldi at this location is not needed, not wanted and would create additional traffic and noise in this residential area. The Aldi would disrupt the peaceful nature of the nearby residential areas and create traffic problems for the residents.

There are two grocery stores and several other convenience stores in the immediate area already. An additional grocery store is not needed here. South County is not a food desert. Aldi should focus on building in food deserts to help lift up those communities in need of food.

This location is better suited for a restaurant or small office building similar to what currently exists along Tesson Ferry Road.

The proposed Chick-fil-A and Chipotle at 5240-5245 Towne South Road would be assets to our community.
