Affton High School will “be the light” for the 2020 seniors tonight as the district starts participating in a national effort to honor the achievements of seniors, who won’t receive the usual graduation fanfare since the rest of the school year is taking place online due to the coronavirus outbreak.

As part of the national “Be the Light” campaign, the Affton School District will turn on the stadium lights at Affton High at 8:30 p.m. — 20:20 in military time — each Friday night. The lights will be left on for 20 minutes and 20 seconds to honor the Class of 2020.

“We may be isolated, but we can share a common light,” the district posted on social media.

To honor our Affton High School Class of 2020, we will join schools across the country in shining our stadium lights at 8:20pm (20:20 military time) each Friday night. We’ll leave them on for 20 minutes and 20 seconds. We may be isolated, but we can share a common light. #BeTheLight #afftonstrong”
