An unnamed 15-year-old suspect was arrested and is being held by St. Louis County Family Court on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in relation to the Aug. 17 homicide of Derrick Merit.
According to a police report, St. Louis County police officers from the South County Precinct responded to a call for service for a stabbing in the 200 block of Carrington Lane at approximately 4:28 p.m. on Aug. 17. Once at the scene, officers discovered an adult male — since identified as Derrick Merit, 39, of the 200 block of Carrington Lane — with life-threatening stab wounds. Merit was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are handling this investigation.
