To the Editor:
It may be time to reconsider political advertisements.
If candidates got a considerable discount for their ads if they only mentioned themselves and no other names, I think there would be a lot less money spent on political ads. It could also help prevent unnecessary name-calling and possible lies about others. Maybe they would be telling us what they would do for us instead of tearing others down and telling falsehoods about their opponents.
Just think of all the young people voting for the first time who are listening to all this ugliness. I don’t think that is making a good impression on all the new young voters—our future leaders.
This is just an idea that some of the money could be spent on productive improvements for all citizens instead of on ugly name-calling. Who knows, it could even promote respect for others.
It is too late for this year but maybe consider this idea for the future.
